Who we are and what we do
The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) is a multidisciplinary membership organisation for everyone working in radiology, radiation oncology and the underlying sciences across the world.
We provide opportunities to learn and exchange ideas collaboratively and gain new perspectives on technologies and treatments. We do this through high quality education, both in-person and online, a range of publications, and our active special interest groups which share best practice and develop our educational programme as well as advise on policy and guidelines.
BJR is our flagship journal, the oldest in the world, and our newly launched BJR|case reports is an open access case report journal. They both cover radiology, radiation oncology and all related sciences.
We have over 2,000 members and welcome the involvement of our corporate subscribers, encouraging their participation in our activities.
With origins dating back to 1897 the BIR is the oldest radiological society in the world. We are a registered charity and governed by and for our members.
