About the job

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Clinical Fellow within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. This Fellowship is based in the Imperial College Renal and Transplant Centre at the Hammersmith Hospital, which is the largest in Europe. This post is initially for six months but may be extended for a further six months depending on the needs of the appointed fellow and following formal progress reviews. The Fellowship is suitable for either post-CCT trainees, or surgeons in earlier stages of their training who have completed general surgical training and hold MRCS. The post is 100% clinical and the candidate would be expected to contribute to audit and quality improvement work. The fellow will divide their work between on call duties (one in six/seven on call rota), elective operating which includes live donor transplantation, peritoneal and haemodialysis access work as well as outpatient activity. There will be a degree of flexibility to accommodate the candidate’s interests.

Applicants are required to have full GMC registration with a license to practice, have completed basic surgical training, and preferably be MRCS (UK) qualified. For further requirements for the post, please read the Person Specification.

Please apply online for this post. Only online applications will be considered. If you have any queries regarding the application form please contact Ms Bynvant Sandhu quoting the relevant reference number.

(Late applications will not be accepted)

The fellow will divide his/her time between inpatient and outpatient clinical work, covering transplant and dialysis access surgery. There will be a degree of flexibility to accommodate the successful candidate’s preferences. The appointee will be part of team of five Senior Clinical Fellows, two Specialist Registrars, and an F3 doctor, working with seven consultant surgeons. The transplant surgical team works closely with the nephrology team (junior doctors and consultants).

The Hammersmith Hospital has a very successful clinical record in managing complex renal and pancreatic transplantation as well as dialysis access surgery. This fellowship will provide the successful candidate experience in the management of these conditions and offer an opportunity to partake in translational research.

Clinical duties include ward exposure and the management of in-patients, outpatient clinics, ward rounds, radiological and transplant MDT’s as shown in the indicative job plan and timetable below. The successful candidate’s job plan and timetable can be modified to reflect individual and the unit’s needs.

A time table is put in place detailing weekly allocations, distributing evenly the duties of the week to the 7 transplant and dialysis access surgery trainees and F3. The plan below is indicative but not absolute and can vary with rotas and demands on the service and staffing levels (table). In addition fellows are allocated to join satellite surgical clinics within North West London.
