Katrine Åhlström Riklund is Professor/chief physician at the Department of Radiation Sciences, Umeå University, Sweden. She is the Programme Director of the Medical School and Assistant Head of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology. She is the President of the 2016 European Congress of Radiology, which opens in Vienna on 2 March. She also serves on Committee 3 Protection in Medicine of the International Commission on Radiological Protection. Prof. Riklund is President of the European Society for Hybrid Medical Imaging, which will be launched at the European Congress of Radiology in March 2016.

What are your key areas of interest and research?
Hybrid imaging, with PET/CT and PET/MR in both oncology and cognition science, which includes the very interesting substance dopamine and its behaviour in the brain.

What is your top management tip?
The details make the big picture! To decide is important, but without implementation decisions are worthless. Talk to each other!

What would you single out as a career highlight?
When I got the message that I was offered a full clinical professor position in Radiology when I was 38 years of age.

Architect or physicist

What are your personal interests outside of work?
Downhill skiing, boating and furnishings.
