CYPRUS (July 5, 2018) - The Patient Safety Movement Foundation (PSMF) and leading health sector media HealthManagement.org have announced a strategic information partnership that will raise awareness on reducing preventable patient deaths across the care continuum. The Patient Safety Movement Foundation is a global non-profit that brings together leading medical experts, medical technology CEOs, government leaders and patient advocates with the goal of eliminating preventable patient deaths in hospitals.

The subject of patient death by medical errors has gained global awareness as leading medical establishments, and industry media have brought to light disturbing figures on preventable patient mortalities. Through this partnership, PSMF and HealthManagement.org will publish stories on the latest research, programmes and evidence-based solutions for tackling the 30 leading causes of preventable death and medical error in the world.

According to the researchers, medical errors account for the 14th leading cause of death globally. In the United States, medical errors cause 200,000 preventable deaths every year – making it the third leading cause of death in the United States behind heart disease and cancer. With the mission of ZERO preventable deaths by 2020 (0X2020), PSMF is committed to unifying the healthcare ecosystem and further implementing evidence-based best practices to save thousands of lives and reduce healthcare costs.

“We can no longer hope for ZERO preventable patient deaths; we must plan for ZERO,” explains Joe Kiani, Founder, and Chairman of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation (pictured). “We are thrilled to partner with HealthManagement.org to publish the latest information on news, technology and evidence-based best practices surrounding the leading causes of preventable patient harm. Medical errors are preventable. By learning about best practices and leadership implemented by hospitals, we can enable healthcare personnel to improve patient safety around the world. Together we can make a difference.”

Commenting on the partnership, Christian Marolt, Executive Director of HeathManagement.org said:
“For more than 20 years, we have been striving to break down the type of siloisation in healthcare that ultimately contributes to inefficiencies and medical errors. Through our collaboration with PSMF, we will continue to fight to connect all factions in healthcare and to support the aim to achieve zero preventable patient deaths by 2020. We will use all our digital and print channels to reach our audience of healthcare management and industry leaders and our presence at medical events across the globe to spread the message about the PSMF campaign. Preventable patient deaths are unacceptable, and the healthcare sector cannot waste any more time addressing this issue.”
