The use of ultrasound for frontline diagnostics and procedural aids is becoming increasingly common. The Hands-On Ultrasound Symposium for Frontline Providers is designed to provide basic ultrasound training to doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and physical therapists.


The interactive course format is comprised of engaging lectures and hands-on training sessions to provide attendees with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement basic pulmonary, cardiovascular, abdominal/renal, and musculoskeletal ultrasound in everyday practice.

Morning didactic sessions will explore the basics of ultrasound including history, functionality, application, and knobology. Following the morning session, hands-on breakout sessions will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn and practice new skills on live patients with peer and expert feedback.

Topics Include:

  • History and basics of ultrasound outside of radiology
  • Knobology of the ultrasound
  • Hands-on training for pulmonary, cardiovascular, abdominal/renal, and musculoskeletal ultrasound

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify and interpret terminology specific to the use of ultrasound in a medical setting.
  2. Understand the theory and basic physics of ultrasound and its use in a medical setting.
  3. Describe transducer types, and ultrasound functions and techniques.
  4. For each system, demonstrate basic and advanced image optimization.
  5. For each system, demonstrate use of different fields of view.
  6. Demonstrate understanding of basic pulmonary, cardiovascular, abdominal, renal, and musculoskeletal anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
  7. Identify ultrasonographic characteristics of pulmonary, cardiovascular, abdominal, renal, and musculoskeletal pathophysiology.
  8. Identify ultrasonographic artifact.
  9. Demonstrate ability to obtain accurate views of pulmonary, cardiovascular, abdominal, renal, and musculoskeletal anatomy.
  10. Accurately identify anatomical structures, physiologic characteristics, and pathophysiology.

Fifty-percent (50%) refunds will be issued for all cancellations received prior to the start of the course. Refund requests must be received by postal mail, email or telephone. “No shows” are subject to the full course fee, and no refunds will be issued once the conference has started.
