The European Society of Pathology (ESP) together with the Faculty of Pathology, Royal College of Physicians, Ireland are looking forward to welcoming you all and extending a ‘Cead Mile Failte’(100 thousand welcomes) when you join us in Dublin, Ireland for the European Congress of Pathology (ECP 2023), September 2023. Ireland has been traditionally renowned for its history in education, being affectionally known as the “The land of Saints and Scholars”, and the congress organizers are delighted to have the honour of hosting this first class international educational event whilst providing an environment for the sharing of knowledge, innovations and experiences that will enhance the activities of the world-wide pathology community for the benefi ts of all our patients.

Ireland's award winning Convention Centre Dublin (CCD), located in the heart of Dublin, the largest and capital city, has an easy access to the airport, hotels, and all that the city has to offer. Hugely successful as a venue for international conferences, the centre will provide an ideal focal point for all our delegates, speakers, as well as our partners in industry. Keynote lectures by international renowned experts, a full programme of lectures, slide seminars and interactive sessions by leaders in their fi elds to multiple oral and posters presentations will provide an ideal opportunity for continuing professional development, networking and sharing of ideas. Integral to our programme will be sessions organised by and for our trainee pathologists encompassing important and cutting edge advancements in pathology practise, important for their future pathology careers.

Our motto for the ECP 2023, “Pathology – a bridge between science and medicine” acknowledges the significant changes that practising pathologists have made and continue to make to their daily practise so as to ensure that new benefi cial diagnostic and technological advancements are embraced and integrated into everyday practise for the benefi t of all patients. The meeting will refl ect the extremely dynamic development in the fi eld of pathology and update on these advancements through the excellent programme prepared by the ESP working groups, ESP-affi liated Societies, Education and Trainee Subcommittees.

Boasting a rich history embedded within its numerous museums and historical buildings, strong literary, theatrical and musical traditions, as well as including a wide choice of restaurants, ‘pubs’ and entertainment venues, Dublin will provide a welcoming city for all. We hope that through the multiple social events and activities here in Dublin, both organized by the congress and arranged on your own, you will experience fi rst-hand the renowned Irish hospitality and experience a fl avour of Ireland's rich cultural history.

The aim of the organisers is to provide an up-to-date scientific programme covering all major areas of diagnostic, translational, molecular and investigative pathology. Special emphasis will be put on recent developments in pathology, particularly in the applications of technologies linked to molecular understanding, and strengthening of the role of continuing close clinico-pathological cooperation for patient benefit.
