According to analytics firm Burning Glass Technologies, it is hardest to find staff with the necessary skills to fill Cloud Security roles.

This is important for hiring managers to take note of as the time it takes to cloud security roles, for instance, is more than three months. This works out as 19 days longer than it takes to fill the second hardest-to-fill skill,
Jboss Application Server. For all IT sector skills, the average number of days it takes to fill a position is 45 days making filling a Cloud Security job twice the length.

The increasing an urgent need for cybersecurity skills along with the ongoing growth of cloud computing have made cloud security one of the most difficult skills to find in an employee.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Labour has predicted that employment of computer and IT occupations will grow 12 percent from 2014 to 2024. This is more than the average for all occupations.

“These occupations are expected to add about 488,500 new jobs, from about 3.9 million to about 4.4 million from 2014 to 2024, thanks in part to a greater emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data, more everyday items becoming connected to the Internet in what is commonly referred to as the Internet of things, and the continued demand for mobile computing,” the Labour Department said.

“In the technology world, cloud computing and cybersecurity are both hot topics — so it’s no surprise that Cloud Security is the most difficult information technology skill for employers to find in the labour market,” the survey said.

Cloud Security is not the only touch skill to find in an employee. Other difficult-to-fill skills include metadata design, integration architecture, distributed computing, information architecture and Apache Kafka. These all take 68 to 73 days to fill.

In terms of jobs rather than skills, Technical Manager/Director openings take the longest to fill, at 107 days. Following this are SAP manager, systems analyst days, and Java architect, each of which take about 63 days.
